Armando Varela – international artist
The Trust would like to congratulate one of our tenant’s, Mr Armando Varela. Armando was recently contacted by the Museum of Contemporary Art, in Lima, in his home country of Peru, as they are now going to have a permanent display of some of his sculptures. Armando has pieces permanently displayed in the UK, ‘You&Me’ at the University of Essex, ‘Birds’ at Burghley House and we are lucky to have a sculpture here in Balkerne Gardens.
After graduating from the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes, Armando won a scholarship to study at the L’Ecole des Beaux Arts, in Paris, He then taught sculpture at the National University of Engineering in Peru. Armando then went on to study at St. Martin’s School of Art in London before becoming a member of staff, teaching in St. Martin’s Sculpture Department.
