Freda Gunton Lodge is our residential care home with 38 rooms, including 2 that can accommodate couples.It’s designed to help you stay as independent as possible, with support available whenever you need it. Most importantly, it’s your home; a place to feel comfortable, settled and live life to the full.

In the home, you can enjoy the comfort and privacy of your own fully furnished room with en-suite facilities, which you are welcome to personalise as you wish.

There are excellent facilities, including a home entertainment room, hair salon, communal dining area, comfortable lounge and beautiful gardens to relax in and enjoy.

With the support of our dedicated manager, our staff team is the very heart of the home. They are warm, kind and genuinely love what they do. By working together and building relationships with residents and their families, they create a place that feels like home.

There are many social opportunities to enjoy, both at home and in the local community. From everyday chats and shared meals to exercise classes, music and celebrations, there’s always something going on for those who wish to join in. We also love getting out and about, staying connected with the local community and enjoying trips and events together.

At Balkerne Gardens Trust, we understand the importance of good food. The home offers a delicious seasonal menu of traditional home-cooked meals. Our head chef will personally meet with you to discuss your dietary requirements. There is also a private dining area available to you, should you wish to share a meal with family and friends. Specialist diets and resident preferences are also catered for.

Visitors are always welcome in the home, this includes professional services such as a Chiropodist, GP etc.

FAQs

Yes, respite stays are for a minimum of 2 weeks and a maximum of 6 weeks. This is ideal for post-operative care, when families are on holiday, or when caregivers need a short break. Contact us directly to discuss how we can support you.

A respite stay would be an ideal way to find out if the home is suitable for you and meets your needs.

Yes, laundry service is included, but dry cleaning is provided through an external company at additional cost.

We cannot accept applicants with a confirmed dementia diagnosis. However, if a resident develops dementia whilst in our care, we will continue to support them for as long as the service can meet their needs.
